Ming dynasty ceramic mingqi figures are glazed in the traditional sancai (“three-color”) palette of amber, green, and cream, a decorative technique prized for its luminous, flowing surface. Mingqi offerings were often placed in tombs to provide the deceased with attendants and comforts in the afterlife. They often depicted servants, officials, animals, or guardians, reflecting both the worldly status of the tomb’s occupant and the spiritual importance of ensuring a prosperous existence beyond death.
Please note that sancai glazes typically contain lead. Extra care should be taken when handling sancai glazed items, including washing one's hands afterwards. Each figure is about 8.5 inches tall.
