This Macedonian bronze coin bears the name of Alexander the Great (BA stands for ΒΑΣΙΛΕΩΣ ΑΛΕΞΑΝΔΡΟΥ, or King Alexander). However, it was minted posthumously under his former general, Asandros, who ruled the territories of Lydia and Caria that Alexander conquered.

After the death of Alexander the Great, his empire was left without a clear successor. This led to a series of conflicts known as the Wars of the Diadochi, where Alexander's former generals and officials fought for control over different parts of his vast empire.

Though he did not play a part in the power struggle immediately following Alexander's death, Kassander later seized the throne by executing Alexander the Great's son, Alexander IV. He then founded the Antipatrid dynasty, and ruled from 305 BCE until his death in 297 BCE.
