Notes: These coins were issued by the provisional government during the Mexican Revolution, in order to address currency shortages caused by the war. The Mexican Revolution began on November 20, 1910, fueled by widespread dissatisfaction with the policies of President Porfirio Diaz, who favored wealthy elites at the expense of the working and rural poor. The portrait of Benito Juarez, Mexico’s first indigenous president, symbolized a return to the people's rights and a stark contrast to the oppressive regimes that followed him.
