Each purchase is for ONE random botany engraving and its accompanying page of text, along with an archival document protector.
These hand colored copper plate engravings are from English Botany by James Sowerby, originally published in London between 1790 and 1814.
English Botany or, Coloured Figures of British Plants, with their Essential Characters, Synonyms and Places of Growth is a 36 volume catalogue of British plants and fungi that was issued in 267 monthly parts. Each of the copper plate illustrations also includes a text page with the scientific and common names of each species, its preferred habitat, its morphology, and a short passage of additional information.
Though they were originally part of a book, the prints had already been separated when acquired by History Hoard. This is often done when a book is heavily damaged beyond repair, in order to salvage the parts that are still usable.
Each print measures approximately 8.5 x 5.5 inches (19 x 13 cm).
Our original glass and leatherette display boxes showcase your relic above a custom information card, with a design unique to History Hoard.
