Background Info:

This forged iron axe head was recovered in the Scandinavia region of Northern Europe, produced by Viking or Norse people that inhabited the region between the 8th and 10th centuries CE. The design features a circular socketed shaft and a curved blade with a pointed "beard" on the underside.

Axes of this size were likely used for finer crafting tasks, such as carving wood or shaping smaller materials.

The Vikings themselves were a seafaring Norse people who raided and settled throughout Europe from the late 8th century to the late 11th century, a time known as the Viking Age. The voyages of the Vikings took them as far south as Northern Africa and as far west as North America, where they briefly became the first European settlers of the continent around 1000 CE.
