Description: Nouveau Livre à dessiner des carracteres d'Annibal Carrache (or New Book of Characters by Annibale Carracci) was an art reference book that compiled the work of Annibale Carracci, published posthumously in 1750. This loose leaf engraving
Annibale Carracci (1560-1609) was an Italian painter and printmaker who was a prominent figure in the Baroque art movement. Born in Bologna, Carracci was part of a family of artists, with his brother Agostino and cousin Ludovico also making significant contributions to the art world.
Carracci is known for his skill in creating vivid, dramatic works that combined elements of classical art with contemporary styles. He was a pioneer of the Baroque style, which emphasized intense emotion, dynamic movement, and dramatic lighting effects. In addition to painting, Carracci was also an accomplished printmaker, creating a number of highly sought-after prints that were collected by art enthusiasts across Europe.
This particular print is in excellent condition, though there is a small portion in the center of the page that has been cut out and patched. It is unclear if this was done by the original printer to hide mistake, or if this was a later repair.
Handling & Care Instructions: To prevent the ink from fading, store in a low light environment and keep out of direct sunlight. UV light can be damaging to antique documents. Handle with clean hands. Gloves are not suggested as they can make hand movement less precise, leading to an increased risk of dropping or ripping the document.
