AUCTION ENDS SATURDAY, JUNE 11TH AT 3PM PST
Engineer's Name: E. C. Simmons (first book), O. W. Stoll (second book)
Location: N.W.&W. Railroad, Wyoming
Description: Field books were used by railroad engineers to take notes as they surveyed the land for railroad construction. These books included vital information that described the lay of the land like topography and cross section notes. Some books also contain information on the placement of future railroad tracks, such as line, level, and switch notes. Each of these books was highly unique to the engineer that wrote in them, and no two are alike.
Interestingly, one of these books also contains a handwritten note on some scratch paper.
Our books were originally archived in the Chicago, Burlington & Quincy (CB&Q) Lines West Engineering Office Field Book Files.
