Background Info:

This Japanese book is the second volume of Sakakibara Koresuke's Collection of Short Stories, published 1874 in the early Meiji era. Though predominantly a text based book, it also features a few woodblock illustrations (shown above).

The Meiji era began in 1867 with the restoration of the emperor as the leading power in Japan, as opposed to the feudal system of the previous centuries. After Japanese isolation was forcibly ended by Western powers, the nation focused on industrializing and embracing Western ideas and technology in order to become more powerful on the world stage.

A Certificate of Authenticity accompanies this book.

Item Details:

The cover of this book is stained and worn, but the interior pages are all mostly intact. The binding is strong as well.

Japanese books are read right to left (instead of left to right) and are bound on the right side, contrary to those in Western languages. The pages may be double layered, and care must be taken to ensure that they do not separate when flipping through.

Keep these books pristine: they MUST be stored in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and out of reach of bugs!
