The scale of production was so significant that British observers often compared the city to Manchester, England, then one of the world’s leading textile-producing cities.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThese certificates represent financial investment in the historical economy of western India. Both companies raised capital through preference shares, offering investors a stake in a textile industry that remained vital during the Second World War and the years leading up to independence.
