Sparked by the Wuchang Uprising on October 10, 1911, it quickly spread across the provinces as reformists, revolutionaries, and local military leaders turned against the Qing dynasty. The revolution was driven by frustration with corruption, foreign domination, and the failure of late Qing reforms. By early 1912, the last emperor, Puyi, had abdicated, marking the collapse of the Qing and the birth of a new republican government under Sun Yat-sen’s leadership—ushering in a new era in modern Chinese history.

Each coin comes with a Certificate of Authenticity.

Includes glass top leatherette display box.

Origin: Russian Empire

Authority: Emperor Paul I

Date: 1800 CE

Denomination: Copper 2 Kopecks

Mint: ЕМ - Ekaterinburg Mint

Size: 36mm

Obverse: П I (P I) - Crowned monogram of Pavel I.

Reverse: 2. Unlike official currency, these coins and paper bills weren’t issued by the central bank but by local municipalities, private companies, state-owned firms, and town savings banks. As a result, they weren’t legal tender but were accepted within local communities by mutual agreement. While many notgeld were issued specifically as emergency money, some were also issued for collectors during less inflationary periods. Porcelain notgeld served as a substitute for real silver and gold coins in the postwar period, but their fragility and the Reichsbank’s refusal to recognize unofficial currencies led to their decline by 1922.

All purchases include a Certificate of Authenticity.
